Volunteering as a nurse in Ghana was an incredible experience that gave me a deeper appreciation for cultural humility, adaptability, and the power of human connection. The people were kind, welcoming, and eager to share their knowledge, and the volunteer organization truly thought of everything. I felt safe, supported, and well-prepared throughout. If you are even slightly considering this program, do it! I gained many things from this experience, (knowledge and utter joy from being immersed in the culture, insight into the education system, learning how to teach and provide care in this culture). But the most important gains I brought home with me are connection and community. The sense of community in the village is something that will always hold a special place in my heart and the connections I made with the people have brought me more fulfillment than I could have ever imagined.
